Transcribed from video by irenistiQ! Watch this video: Special interview with Adriana Lima

Adriana: Aloha!

VO: Shooting for the Victoria's Secret Swimsuit catalogue continues on the island of Maui. Once Adriana's hair and makeup are done, she joins fellow model, Aurelie Claudel, on location.

Photographer: It's a double and you're both in it. (As the models walk towards him) C'mon, keep going. Just a little bit over..

Adriana: (Waves) I'm the Brazilian Sereia (Mermaid).

VO: Adriana began her modeling career at the age of 16 years old. To make it big, she had to leave her native Brazil and move to America, by herself.

Adriana: When I first got to New York, it was hard because first of all, I didn't speak any English.
(Points at someone) That's Rusty, (Points at man kneeling, possibly a photographer) This is silly...And I'm Spanky.

Photographer: Spanky, yeah. There's a story there.

Adriana: (Proceeds to tell how she acquired the nickname "Spanky") The waitress comes over me and he was like, "Do you want a scampi shrimp with kus kus?" I didn't understand, and I go back and I say to him, "Ok, I want the Spanky..with ku ku." I say that and..and then after that, everyone started to call me, "Spanky."

VO: The only challenge more difficult than conquering the language barrier, was landing her first big gig.

Adriana: I arrived and my first casting that I went and I saw thousands of girls, as beautiful as I am, and much more beautiful than I am. And it's like hard, you have to be very secure about yourself, very confident.

Photographer: (says to Adriana in the black bikini) That's gorgeous. (says to Adriana in red swimsuit) Beautiful. Yeah, beautiful eyes there. Great light.

Someone: You are a star! You are a legend!
